Over the past few weeks, my rugby team has been doing some winter training. Throughout the month of January, every Tuesday, me and the boys would work on passing and the basic fundamentals of the game. Just an easy introduction for new players and and helps me sharpen my skills. It helps though by thinking of my word tenacity, it reminds of my goals and helps me keep on and carrying on as those British coffee mugs and occasional t-shirt say. In the end I know winter training is helping me keep up my tenacity.
It's been quite awhile since I chose my word Tenacity and it has been a challenge! Trying to do the best I can if it's at either school, at home, or on the rugby pitch. I have been demonstrating my word though pretty well in my opinion, I have been putting in the long hours in the books and all that jazz. Staying up extremely late like I am right now at 5 in the morning. But besides the point I recently had exams which wasn't too bad, I thought I did pretty good, just so you know. I'm not afraid to say that I had all B's across the board. Not bad, definitely room for improvement. I just have to stay focused and work on my dreams of success. And get some sleep. I'm telling you, I'm going to live up 2014.
#LivingtheDream I recently found a training program that I have been using to increase my speed and agility. At first it doesn't seem so bad. The program was actually very simple. I had to run 25 yards and then walk back until I recently reached the 50 yard line, then the 75, the 100, and then all way the way back down. I did this four times and was exhausted. Before I started, I knew that I would my mind would tell me I was tired before my body did, so I needed to find someway of motivating myself. One thing that always lifts me up and makes me believe that I can achieve anything, is the song "Intro" by Xx. When I was listening to the song, I saw myself playing at the top and trying to be the best. During my training I thought about my word tenacity and while thinking about it, I was able to finish roughly over 1,600 yards. A good way to start off and get ready for the season.
Recently, I have started started some new health craze in my life, another one of those new year's resolutions you make throughout the year but never follow through with it. But this is one is different. I've made some serious changes in my diet and now I feel better than I have ever had. I have more energy through out the day where before, you would be finding me asleep with that 1:30 feeling after lunch. Now I eat six meals a day. Might sound a little excessive, but effective. I find myself more full and charged instead of the empty feeling you find when you have the long hours between breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I consume roughly 3,800-4,200 calories a day while working extensively in they gym. Really, the only drawback that I seem to face, is seeing what my friends and family eat. Not that I'm specifically jealous in anyway, but almost disgusted in some of the choices they make when it comes to food. A once crispy creme donut, a dear friend, is now something that doesn't even phase me. Chocolate now sends shivers down my spine(probably because I once devoured 26 Lindor Truffels and then found myself on the bathroom floor for 2 hours). Really in the end, I'm proud of the healthy life style changes I have implemented and
Recently, I have been showing more tenacity in my everyday life. I've started to eat more healthy and exercising more than ever. I have started to eat six meals a day, containing a good balance of vegetables, fruits, grains, and proteins. I also strive to drink roughly 16 ounces of water, every hour, throughout the day to ensure that I'm staying hydrated. My workout regime consist of weight training almost everyday, with speed interval training, and crossfit. I strive to be the best that I can be in rugby, on and off the field. Through this program, I'm hoping to make these healthy habits a significant part of my life, and to stay with me for a long time.
Today, I completed one of the hardest workouts of my life. At first, I thought I would die, but I'm still here so that means I can do it again! It was nearly nonstop, almost two hours of seemingly endless numbers of sets and repetitions. It was no doubt difficult but it does help having one of my rugby team mates to train with me. Helping me to meet my small goals, like reaching that last set, finishing that last rep. In the end, I know that all the hard work put in the gym, in the classroom, and at home, will help me reach my ultimate goal of joining the High School All American Rugby Team, something that has been a dream of mine for a long time.
